Zoe vs Kilimanjaro for Freddie Farmer Foundation

An Eltham woman is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this month to help the Freddie Farmer Foundation to fund a "game-changing" piece of equipment called a LokoHelp electromechanical gait trainer to enable disabled children to walk.

Zoe Morgan will trek to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain, the 19,000ft Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on June 22.

To prepare, Zoe is training 4-5 times a week for the trek which will take six days to complete.

Due to Mount Kilimanjaro's great height, the mountain is heavily influenced by changes in altitude.  At the base of the mountain the average temperature is between 21 to 27 degrees Celsius but as you move higher up the mountain, the night-time temperature plummets to between -7 to -29 degrees Celsius. And that is really cold!

Charity Officer Karen Smith said she is in awe of people like Zoe who go to such challenging and extreme lengths to raise funds, saying: "We've had people jump out of aeroplanes, cycle all over Europe, walk and run marathons but I don't think we've had anyone climb Mount Kilimanjaro for us before! Zoe is an inspiration!"
