12 Aug Wooden Spoon Helps Children Stand Tall

A recent visit from Wooden Spoon Kent highlighted the positive impact their support is having on the children we work with.

Sandra Soler-Gomez and Matt Mitchell from the Wooden Spoon Kent committee popped by to the Freddie Farmer Physiotherapy Centre in Bromley last month, where they had the opportunity to see first-hand the difference their support is making to the children and young people we support.

Thanks to funding from Wooden Spoon, we have been able to purchase an EasyStand Evolv Standing Frame, a specialist piece of equipment that is already making a significant impact within our Bromley Centre.

The EasyStand Evolv is a versatile sit-to-stand frame designed to support children and young people with limited mobility. It provides a safe, comfortable transition from sitting to standing, enabling users to experience an upright position and interact with their peers at eye level. For some, this may be the first time they have had the opportunity to stand alongside friends and family in this way.

The benefits of standing therapy extend far beyond social interaction. Milo, one of our Physiotherapists, explains that regular use of the standing frame can support improved cardiovascular health, enhance circulation and respiratory function, increase bone density, and help reduce muscle spasms. These physical benefits can play an important role in supporting overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life.

The standing frame will benefit many of the children and young people who attend our Bromley Centre for physiotherapy and occupational therapy. By supporting strength, posture, and confidence, it will help the children we support work towards greater independence and achieve their therapy goals.
